In lieu of film school, Henry and Kristina rent movies and talk about them.

Hey, is this classical/artistic/archetypal movies mainly? I'm pretty sure you've seen the Seven Samurai, but that's certainly a must. How about "Wings of Desire" or "the Downfall?" The latter is more modern but still falls into that group.
Oh, even though it has a few parts that Kristina will hate, Delicatessen is bloody brilliant, along with "the City of Lost Children."
Maybe "Baghdad Cafe?" It's not what it sounds like.
Naturally, I have to give a less erudite suggestion, too; how about "Bender's Big Score?"
Henry saw "The Downfall, it'll have to be added to the list that I haven't seen.
What will I hate about the other picks? Is there a scene where they torture puppy-bunnies?
Agh! Our library has "Bender's Big Score" but there's a wait on it. Oh well, we'll be 82 out of 82.
Conversations With Other Women.
First, I would like to reiterate the point that your library is just about the best place on this planet. The mere fact that "Bender's Big Score" is available proves it.
As for Delicatessen, it contains some notably dark clowny/mimey scenes that you might find more distasteful than the rest of the movie. "Hate" was a bit of a stretch.
That said, both 'Delicatessen' and 'The City of Lost Children' are more beautiful and Gilliamesque than anything Gilliam has done recently.
I can say that with impunity since he hasn't released anything recently.
Oh, I also enjoyed Solyaris. It is, however, a Russian movie that follows in the style of so many Russian authors. (Have pillows handy)
"knockin' on heaven's door" is an outrageously good movie. You may only be able to find it on VHS, though.
Keep the commentaries coming! I demand free content!
Solyaris...is this the one they remade with George Clooney?
Free content?!?! I thought you said the check was in the mail.
Heh, yeah Solaris is the US remake, but the original is actually quite different. Artistically, it's completely different. It was the Russian response to 2001: A Space Odyssey, so it has the same long style and philosophical framing, whereas Clooney's version is, well, much more drama and action oriented.
That said, while I enjoyed Solyaris far more compositionally, I really enjoy that sort of thing, and I was one of 2 or 3 who stayed awake out of probably 30-40 people who actually showed up to watch the movie.
However, I had no idea that this was a pay as you go service. I've really enjoyed the discussions so far, but if I'm paying, I better be getting some goram gummi worms from the concession stand! Can we pay on the barter system?
For still other movies, if you are in the mood for still horrifyingly ignorant other movies, Ben Stein's Expelled is exactly what you want. Seriously, just... wow. It's horrifyingly lacking in even the remotest level of competence.
I expect more of a man who hired Jimmy Kimmel, if only for the Silverman connection. If you see it. buy a ticket for some other movie instead to avoid supporting blatant lies and social manipulation.
How about The King of Hearts? Kind of like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but in Europe. I love Movies, whenever it rains I want to be home watching movies & eating tomato soup & grilled cheese sandwiches. From my childhood somewhere...
Don't forget about Breaker Morant!
love, your Mama
Maybe this is too recent, but you should do "There will be blood" or perhaps "Sweeney Todd." Give the recent movies some love, too. (Don't forget Run, Lola, Run).
Andrew- You're totally right about new stuff. The last movie we saw in the theater was Juno. We won't blog about that but we'll be sure to blog about the next one.
Henry says we should throw you a bone. Ruff!
Andrew, you're just waiting for us to do "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" (1978) [see link below]. Personally, I'm waiting for it to make the jump to DVD. Criterion Collection, I've found your next movie!

Hey guys- how about The Accused? I have a hankering for Jodi Foster and discomfort, as of late. Is there anything good coming out to the theaters soon that we should go see?
Persepolis
We saw Persepolis (and liked it) at the $3 theater in town. We haven't ironed out our policy of brand new movies we see, but generally we don't blog about them. Kristina ends up making the "Too soon?" joke and we end up laughing instead of blogging.
"Welcome to the Dollhouse" and then "Palindromes".
"Funny Games" and then "Funny Games U.S.". I love double features.
Repo Man
I have to add a link to a list that a buddy sent me.
List
These are the ones that I have watched:
Donnie Darko (own)
Mulholland Drive (own)
Memento (own)
Dark City (own)
Cube (not sure if I own)
The Game (own)
2001: A Space Odyssey
